A museum quality silver compass ring, Paris between 1845-1862. The ring is smartly constructed and quite striking looking with its large scale. The compass is made by a Swiss clockmaker, Jean Henry Blatter (Mogelsberg, Switzerland/CH,1803 - Neuilly Sur Seine, France, 1874). This rare ring was created by Pierre Longpré (Blennes, France, 1806 - Vincennes, France, 1862), and it was patented in 1845 in Paris by Blatter at 16 rue Bourg-l’Abbé. This is the only one we've seen besides in museums and books. The ring bears a proper hallmark for Longpré on the back. (see the photos)
Compared to the fact that the ring is nearly two centuries old, the compass is still fairly working, and the ring is overall in very good condition. The ring can be a perfect symbol for someone who starts a new venture. And it works as a great pendant over a chain as well.
